FanDuel NFL Week 3 Lineup Strategy, Picks, and Bargain Plays

Welcome to week three of the NFL season on FanDuel. Now with two weeks worth of data, a ton of value on the board this week, and several games with big time fantasy upside, we expect to see winning scores on FanDuel way up this week.

If you missed our week 3 DraftKings article, we identified the Saints/Falcons and 49ers/Chiefs games as the ones to target. If you missed it, give it a read as we will intentionally leave out several of the targets from that article in an effort to identify some additional players that should be on your radar this week.

Before we get right into the picks, here are the top team totals from Vegas for this 13 game slate on FanDuel:

Kansas City31
LA Rams28
San Francisco25
New Orleans25

FanDuel NFL Week 3 Quarterback Targets

Deshaun Watson

FanDuel Price: $7,700
Watson’s 4-10 PPG rushing keeps his floor from every dipping too far below the 12 points we saw in week one. As odd as it may be to say it, the key to Watson’s production may very well be Will Fuller. Fuller has scored in every game that he’s played with Watson, and has a knack for burning defenses that overcommit to containing Hopkins. The Giants gave up the most fantasy PPG to opposing QB’s last season and haven’t really been tested yet this season.

Blake Bortles

FanDuel Price: $6,700
A glance at the trend for Bortles for over the past season has been at least reaching value in every home game. Keep in mind FanDuel adjusts these values based on trends and matchups, so he has certainly hit value at a higher price than his current $6,700 price tag. If you are looking for a contrarian play to Mahomes, Ryan, Watson, and Garoppolo, Bortles has a plus matchup and will likely have a limited-at-best Leonard Fournette.

FanDuel NFL Week 3 Running Back Targets

Alvin Kamara

FanDuel Price: $8,700
There is so much value this week that we had to give out a high end RB play. The obvious and likely chalk play this week is Todd Gurley. He has been a home lock with 40 point upside for the past season plus at home, and faces a Chargers defense that was dead last in rushing D a season ago. That being said, if you are looking for the highest upside, I think it’s Kamara in a game that really matters, indoors, facing a banged up linebacker and safety group in Atlanta. The Falcons will do a better job on Thomas than the Bucs and Browns did, meaning Payton and Brees will need to lean on their difference maker to pick up the road win in this game. I think this spot has 40+ point upside for Kamara, but the floor was set in two lackluster performances against Atlanta last season.

Kareem Hunt

FanDuel Price: $7,900
The forgotten man in KC should get a chance to shine this week. Mahomes was so efficient against the Chargers that they never really got Hunt into the flow of the offense, and while he was good against the Steelers, they are still a rough RB matchup. Getting San Francisco at home could set Hunt up for a breakout performance, and give him a chance to steal some thunder from Mahomes owners in week three. Through two weeks (including a game with the Lions) the 49ers are giving up a healthy 4.3 YPC.

Giovanni Bernard

FanDuel Price: $6,400
Gio is likely going to be way over-owned this week given the assumed work load and corresponding value. I think the value is in his role in the passing game, as the Panthers are a solid run defense but have loads of issues in the secondary. Bernard put up top 10 RB numbers in a month long stretch as the RB1 in Lazor’s offense last season.

Corey Clement

FanDuel Price: $5,800
We mentioned Clement in the DraftKings article, but wanted to squeeze him in here as well. This is a plus matchup and the Eagles could be without both Sproles and Ajayi here. Even with one of the two playing, Clement has proven he is the best back in Philly and should get 40%+ snaps in a great matchup with the Colts.

FanDuel NFL Week 3 Wide Receiver Targets

Julio Jones

FanDuel Price: $8,700
Over his career, Julio has been a cash game value lock anytime he is priced under $9,000 and playing at home… it’s seriously like 90% of the time he reaches value. The Saints are 30th in DVOA to opposing number 1 receivers through two weeks, giving up 5.5 for 108 on average. Jones still hasn’t found the end zone this season, a trend that the Falcons have to feel some urgency to stop. In an early season game with big playoff implications, and with both team’s running games banged up, we expect to see both of these QB’s coming out firing.

Sammy Watkins

FanDuel Price: $6,200
Anytime you have defenses shifting coverage away from Watkins, you know you have a loaded group of weapons. If you have to bracket Hill, and have to play responsible defense on Kelce, how do you deal with the most efficient deep ball pass catcher in the history of the NFL? Watkins had 6/100 on just 7 targets last week, and that missed target? He was wide open for a 35 yard touchdown and Mahomes whiffed.

Marquise Goodwin

FanDuel Price: $5,800
Another guy that made our DraftKings article as well, but you have to be aware of his return and his role in the 49ers offense. His target share was up to nearly 30% in the preseason, and #1 receivers in Kyle Shanahan offenses are high end WR1’s every single season. His pace with Jimmy at QB last season was for 90+ catches and 1,200+ yards. The Chiefs secondary has been shredded this season, and don’t look like they will be fully healthy for another week or two.

FanDuel NFL Week 3 Tight End Targets

Zach Ertz

FanDuel Price: $7,000
Not only does Ertz get his QB back this week, but he also gets an extremely favorable matchup with the Colts, and a huge target share with Wallace and Jeffery both out now. Through two weeks Ertz has 23 targets, but only 16/142. We are betting on a favorable matchup and the return of his MVP-caliber QB to crank up the production on that target share.

Ian Thomas

FanDuel Price: $4,000
One more bargain play that we are carrying over from our week three DraftKings article, this is the week Ian Thomas breaks onto the fantasy scene. His 99% snap count in a Norv Turner offense almost guarantees production. The fact that this Bengals secondary is solid on the outsides, but extremely vulnerable vs tight ends should hopefully lock him into a bigger role in the game plan this week. At $4,000, he is a rare minimum salary play on FanDuel.
