Summary of Review
For the second year in a row, DraftKings remains the highest graded DFS company on our website. They have somehow weathered the legal storm that surrounded the industry for the past year, and look ready to lead the industry into 2018 and beyond.
The website may not look as polished as FanDuel and Yahoo, but it functions as well if not better than both. The UX is well thought out and there are loads of features that make it easy to create and manage a large number of lineups for each and every slate.
Perhaps where DraftKings separates themselves from the rest of the industry is in the variety of contests and sports they offer. They offer every sport you can imagine, often with multiple contest formats to choose from.
There have been zero issues with players receiving payouts, often within just hours of requesting them, as is the case with any DFS website we promote.
The bottom line is that if you are going to choose just one DFS website to play on, make it DraftKings. They offer more variety, better contest structure, and the biggest payouts in the industry.

Cut to the Chase – Why DraftKings?
While daily fantasy sports has been around for over a decade now, the industry didn’t catch fire until DraftKings made the meteoric marketing push that they did in the 2016 NFL season. This drove millions of new players to the industry, and specifically to DraftKings.
This attention didn’t come without risk, and 2017 saw DraftKings pay the price for all of that publicity as they were tied up in US courts fighting for the industry. In the end, they did prevail and we are able to legally enjoy DFS as a result.
Today the industry is regulated, completely fair and balanced, and now is the best time ever to get involved. So why do we recommend starting out on DraftKings, and how do they compare to main competitors FanDuel, Yahoo, and DRAFT?
First off, they have something for everyone. Nobody offers a wider variety of sports including: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA, Soccer, MMA, LoL, WNBA, CFL, and more.
Secondly, nobody offers larger contests and payouts. The weekly millionaire maker that runs throughout the NFL season is the industry’s largest contest, and makes a new player a millionaire each and every week of the season.
Lastly, they offer one of the most polished websites and apps in the industry, supported by a team that cares about it’s players and community. We have seen this first hand time and time again. The DraftKings staff truly cares about player satisfaction and actively participates in the community to improve their product and player experience.
What Our Experts Are Saying About DraftKings
If you are looking for the biggest contests, with unique roster structures and scoring, DraftKings is the clear choice. They have separated themselves in terms of volume, and game quality, and the quality of their product and service is right on par with most of the industry.
DraftKings not only weathered the political storm that surrounded them from 2015-2016, but they came out the new leader in daily fantasy sports. DraftKings offered a Millionaire Maker contest for every single week of the NFL season, all the way through the Super Bowl. In total, they will make 20+ fantasy players millionaires in 2018. Every experience I had with them in 2017 leads me to believe they will see even more growth in 2018.
Who’s got it better than DraftKings players? Bigger contests, constant influx of new players, great customer support, and lightning fast payouts. If you aren’t already playing on DraftKings, you are missing out on the chance to play in the biggest contests across the widest variety of sports. Their recently announced players first initiative shows that the company truly gets it.
Our Complete DraftKings Review – Updated for 2018
DraftKings is the brainchild of ex-VistaPrint executives Jason Robins, Matthew Kalish, and Paul Liberman. The group created the daily fantasy sports site in 2012 to stake their claim in one of the fastest growing industries in the world.
Backed with $25,000,000 in venture capital funding, DraftKings hit the daily fantasy sports scene aggressively. After working diligently all football season to grow their website and customer-base, at the end of the 2013 season DraftKings ran a 3.1 million dollar tournament including a $1,000,000 grand prize. DraftKings had officially arrived, and they would soon change the industry landscape for good.
DraftKings grew steadily once they purchase DraftStreet and can now accurately describe themselves as the leader in one day fantasy sports. The 2016-2017 years were a struggle as the industry shifted from it’s infant stages to being regulated.
The company survived that period to have a successful 2018 NFL campaign that saw them add even more players, and run bigger weekly contests. To date, DraftKings has paid out over $1 billion in prizes to their players.
There is good reason for this kind of growth, their product is superior to the rest of the industry, and they offer a wide variety of sports with unique roster structures and games. If you haven’t yet signed up at DraftKings, we recommend you grab our DraftKings promo code and get registered today. It’s a different style of game that is fun and will change the way you play fantasy sports.
DraftKings Website Design and Usability
When it comes to design and usability, DraftKings excels. They are one of the most forward thinking companies in the industry, with the ability to pack a ton of information into each page in a simple, user friendly layout that utilizes lightbox technology to allow you to research and build teams without ever having to leave the page you’re on.
They remain one of the most forward thinking companies in Daily Fantasy Sports, and were the first company to offer smartphone and tablet apps to manage your account, and play daily games on their website.
Roster building is the heart of daily fantasy sports, and with DraftKings the process is totally streamlined and fun to play around with. The player pages look amazing and are packed with all the information you need to decide whether or not to draft a player.
Like we mentioned earlier, these pages will pop up in a lightbox, which allows you to fly through player pages quickly, and find all the info you need to build your team.
Our Experience Playing on DraftKings for 5 Years Now
When we initially wrote this review, around four years ago, FanDuel was light years ahead of DraftKings in just about every aspect imaginable. They were marketing better, more aggressive with their marketing, and were doing so with a much more polished product. FanDuel was pouring money and resources into building a daily fantasy product that players would want to use every day.
Fast forward to today, and I think DraftKings has completely turned the tables on FanDuel. DraftKings is attracting more new players, has bigger and better contests, and now offers a website with a phenomenal UI and unbeatable UX.
For this reason, if we were to recommend one website to our users, it would be DraftKings. They seem to be the company that is driving innovation at the moment, and our bet would be that they continue to turn their weaknesses into strengths and become an even better company in 2018.
Withdrawal and Deposits on DraftKings
To be clear, we would never review a site and say that their deposit and withdrawal process is sketchy. This isn’t an illegal game, it is regulated at the state level, and all of the Daily Fantasy Sports sites that we review on this site make it straight forward to add and remove funds from your account.
Where we can say that DraftKings begins to separate themselves from their competition is with the size of their deposit bonuses and by offering free games for every new depositor. As you play daily games more and more, one free game will seem like peanuts, but it’s an indispensable tool for a new player.
It allows you to try out their website and games, get a feel for roster structure, scoring and to play in and analyze the results from a game that is completely different from traditional fantasy sports. If you are coming to DK from a site like FanDuel, you will quickly find that there are numerous differences between the two product.
DraftKings New Player Promotions and Bonuses
A website’s new player promotions and bonuses are important for a few reason. The first is the most obvious: it’s free cash for you to build up your DraftKings bankroll. This is the only time you will get a bonus for making a deposit, so make the most of it.
DraftKings currently offers a free $3 entry for new players that deposit at least $5. This is a contest that pays out as much as $10,000 to the winner. *Eligibility restrictions apply. See website for details. Minimum $5 deposit required
The second reason new player promotions are so important is often overlooked, and that is that new players means a more balanced playing field. A good DFS website is a lot like a good season long fantasy league: you have seasoned vets that are experts, guys that are up and down from year to year, and new players that are paying their dues as they learn the ropes.
You want to have your daily fantasy action on a site that has a constant influx of new players. DraftKings acquired more new players than any other site in 2017 and will likely do so again in 2018. This is thanks to their aggressive marketing tactics, new player promotions, and massive millionaire maker tournaments.
Game Variety and Popularity
While DraftKings doesn’t quite have the variety of games that the company they acquired, DraftStreet did, they have hinted at bringing on some of the different games that DraftStreet did offer. Whether or not that happens prior to the start of the 2018-2019 NFL season remains to be seen.
In addition to fantasy football, DraftKings offers daily fantasy baseball, hockey, golf, basketball, MMA, and eSports. They boast the widest selection of sports in the industry.
Thanks to the website’s fast growing popularity, their games fill up quickly and rarely, if ever, fail to run because there aren’t enough people joining them. The draft lobby on DraftKings.com is easy to navigate, you can sort games by sport time, entry fee, number of entries, game type, etc…
You can also filter and sort the games by combinations of attributes like game type, sport and entry fee, allowing you to find exactly the game you are looking for. Don’t waste time in the lobby, find the game and spend your time putting together the best team possible.
What to Look For From DraftKings in 2018
When we did our update to this DraftKings review prior to the 2017 NFL season, this section was all about the potential merger with FanDuel. However that deal is now dead and the two companies are moving forward independently, so what should we look for next?
One of the things we like to pay attention to is industry-disruptors. The first time we really saw one was Victiv, who came in with an incredibly innovative take on daily fantasy before they were ultimately bought out by PokerStars, aka DraftStars.
One company that we first wrote about back in 2014, that finally seemed to catch the eye of the fantasy world is Draft. Draft operates as an Android and Apple app only product, and is simply one week snake drafts.
Using football as an example, 2-6 owners complete a six round snake draft to pick a QB, two RB’s, and 3 WR’s. Clearly this product is aimed at the season-long fantasy player that prefers snake style drafts to auction and salary cap.
We think that if a current DFS leader: FanDuel, DraftKings, or Yahoo!, were to add this format to their product it would be a game changer. If there were one of these sites that were forward-thinking and aggressive enough to do so, it would certainly be DraftKings. We aren’t saying it’s happening, just to look out for the possibility of it happening. It’s worth noting that once-upon-a-time DraftKings acquired DraftStreet, who offered both formats.
No matter what they do moving forward, I think you can expect to see DraftKings enter the 2018 professional sports seasons with the same vigor that drove them from once being an afterthought in the industry to being the current leader.

If there is one thing you should take from this DraftKings review, let it be that DraftKings offers a product that is not only different, but in many ways superior to what their competitors are doing. If you were going to choose one daily fantasy sports website to make an initial deposit on and start playing, let it be DraftKings. Their roster structures, pricing and variety of games is unmatched in the DFS industry.

I had to give DraftKings five stars, but they really need to change their max entry rules. It is so much fun to play, but it feels like I see the same guys in every single contest. I love the Millionaire Makers to much to quit though.
I have been playing on DraftKings now for almost two years. It is fun and definitely makes the games more entertaining. The problem is that it is hard to win consistently. I find that I win almost 70% of my games on Draft, but less than 25% of my games here. That being said, I like the apps and all of the different options.
