DraftKings Early College Football Picks for Week 9
It’s funny how adding one game with a 75.5 point total can completely change the dynamics of a slate of games. The Week 9 slate on DraftKings is essentially the same as FanDuel’s, but with the SMU/Tulsa game added… a game that could see 80-90 points scored. While a lot of our picks from this week’s FanDuel article carry over to DraftKings, there are plenty of Mustangs and Golden Hurricanes sprinkled in.
DraftKings Week 9 Quarterback Picks
DraftKings Price – $7,600
You really can’t go wrong with either Matt Davis or Dan Evans this week. I prefer Davis because he is cheaper and a one man wrecking crew for the Mustangs… He should throw for 200+ yards, run for 80+ yards and account for 4+ touchdowns.
DraftKings Price – $7,900
Those of you that saw our FanDuel article know that we are all about Cody Kessler this week. The Cal secondary has been getting shredded by opposing quarterbacks, and Kessler will easily be the best QB they have faced this season. Following games against some really tough defenses (Utah, Notre Dame, Washington) this game is going to seem like running skeleton drills for Kessler.
DraftKings Price – $5,100
I did consider punting at quarterback and loading up at RB and WR this week by rolling out Ryker Fyfe in his first start in a QB-friendly offense and in a favorable matchup, but Stave has more experience and a better matchup and will only cost you $1,200 more. Rutgers is the nation’s third worst pass defense, making a Stave/Erickson stack really affordable with big time upside.
DraftKings Week 9 Running Back Picks
DraftKings Price – $6,700
Not only is this a matchup that Perine set the single game rushing record in last season, but you can make the argument that this Kansas defense is even weaker than last season’s. We gave Perine out as one of our locks last week and he finally got on track with a 200 yard 4 touchdown game against Texas Tech. Roll him out again thiss week in an even more favorable matchup.
DraftKings Price – $6,600
Barkley should see a full workload (25+ carries) against Illinois this week which has meant 190 yards rushing in 2 of the last 3 weeks he has been healthy, including the 194 yard game he had against Ohio State featured in the video below. He’s shifty and explosive with all kind of big-play ability, so expect to see him break at least one long touchdown run against the Illini this week.
DraftKings Price – $5,200
With Armstrong out for week 9, Newby should see a considerable bump in carries against a Purdue defense that has been consistently beaten on the ground this season. Newby already has two 6x+ games under his belt this season, and this certainly is lining up to be his third. In the last game he got 20+ carries, Newby put up 236 yards and 3 touchdowns for 47 DraftKings points.
DraftKings Price – $4,400
You could throw shoulder pads on and run for 150 yards behind the Iowa offensive line, so it wasn’t a surprise to see Wadley step in and run for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns in his first start. This week Iowa faces Maryland’s horrendous run defense, and Wadley will once again pick up the start. So long as he doesn’t lose an early fumble or get injured, he’s a lock for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns.
DraftKings Price – $4,100
Anytime you find the 121st rated run defense on the schedule, you have to take a look at the opposing running back. Jones hasn’t faced the easiest schedule this season, particularly over the past few weeks, but is still averaging over 3x value and should find a ton of running room as Tulsa focuses on slowing down Davis this week.
DraftKings College Football Week 9 Wide Receivers
DraftKings Price – $7,600
Garrett is in the midst of a monster season, and his numbers and targets have only gone up since Keevan Lucas went down for the season. SMU comes in giving up 266 passing yards per game, and Garrett comes in off of a record setting 14 catch, 270 yard, 3 touchdown performance… he likely won’t replicate that success, but we are expecting a 35 point week out of Garrett in week 9.
DraftKings Price – $6,200
Sperbeck is averaging 28.1 points per game over his last 5 contests, and faces what is perhaps the softest defense he’s seen over that stretch this week. He is Boise State’s only red zone receiving threat and has scored 7 touchdowns in their last 5 games. His price just does not add up and should be heavily owned Saturday.
DraftKings Price – $5,200
Erickson had a monster week last week (177 yards and a touchdown), and has an even better matchup in this one. To make him an even better start, his only real competition for targets, Robert Wheelwright, went down with looks like a potential season ending injury. Look for Erickson to get 35-45% of the targets for Wisconsin, facing the nation’s third-worst pass defense.
DraftKings Price – $4,900
Nobody in the nation plays faster than Tulsa, and often times that means the opponent sees the bigger jump in numbers. That should be the case this week for Sutton, who has put up nearly 4x value on the season against much tougher competition. We know both teams are going to score and run a ton of plays, so expect Sutton (targeted on 25.1% of all SMU passes) to see his season high in targets, receptions and yards against the nation’s 121st ranked pass defense.
