DraftKings CFL Week 1 Recap and Week 2 Picks
We didn’t nail the top stack last week, but still managed to win 10x our total entries on the week thanks to a strong showing from just about everyone else we targeted.
We had a number of questions on picking running backs in fantasy CFL contests. The key is to focus on their role in the passing game. There are only 3 downs in the CFL, so you can’t really run unless you get a team in 2nd and short. I enjoy the twist, but it does significantly limit the number of times a team can run the ball.
Our CFL Week 2 DraftKings Picks
While we were disappointed in the performance out of the Argonauts last week, we are rolling them out again this week. Saskathewan was the league’s worst defense a year ago, and while Toronto has a game under their belts, the Rough Riders had last week off and this will be their opener. Look for a significant amount of rust on the league’s worst D, and a big day for Ricky Ray and co.
That being said, we are changing up the receivers we are targeting. I believe Tori Gurley is the best receiver on the Toronto roster, and was clearly the guy they wanted to target in the red zone. Hazelton just had better matchups against a solid Tiger-Cats defense.
The Argo I was really impressed with last Thursday was Kenny Shaw. He showed great burst, was on the same page as Ricky Ray, caught everything, and looks like he’s the downfield option on this team. So we are not chasing the 2 touchdown game from Hazelton and are going to roll with the best player in Gurley, and best value in Shaw.
Montreal gave up a big game to Andrew Harris last week, and we expect Travon Van to extend his hot start and have a nice week 2 against the Alouettes. He was a fumble and a pair of lucky Chris Rainey touchdowns away from being the second leading scoring RB last week, this is an even better matchup, and he’s way underpriced on DraftKings right now.
By starting Shaw and Van, both value players at their positions, we were able to target our number 1 and 2 receivers, Duron Carter and Chris Williams. We expect a better week out of Carter and for Williams to come back to reality, but to still be a top 5 WR play. Lineup below, be sure to make it your own and try and watch the games, there are 2 on Thursday night!
